Venus is the second-closest planet to the Sun, orbiting it every 224.7 Earth days. The planet is named after Venus, the Roman goddess of love and beauty. After the Moon, it is the brightest natural object in the night sky, reaching an apparent magnitude of −4.6. Because Venus is an inferior planet from Earth, it never appears to venture far from the Sun: its elongation reaches a maximum of 47.8°. Venus reaches its maximum brightness shortly before sunrise or shortly after sunset, for which reason it is often called the Morning Star or the Evening Star.
Venus has an extremely dense atmosphere, which consists mainly of carbon dioxide and a small amount of nitrogen. The atmospheric mass is 93 times that of Earth's atmosphere while the pressure at the planet's surface is about 92 times that at Earth's surface—a pressure equivalent to that at a depth of nearly 1 kilometer under Earth's oceans. The density at the surface is 65 kg/m³ (6.5% that of water)
The CO2-rich atmosphere, along with thick clouds of sulfur dioxide, generates the strongest greenhouse effect in the Solar System, creating surface temperatures of over 460 °C (860 °F). This makes Venus's surface hotter than Mercury's which has a minimum surface temperature of -220 °C and maximum surface temperature of 420 °C, even though Venus is nearly twice Mercury's distance from the Sun and thus receives only 25% of Mercury's solar irradiance.

When i first saw the thumbnail i thought, i want a wallpaper of this!, and Tr1umph hasn't decieved me ^o^ anyway let's get into the critique.

Vision

After reading the description of Venus by the artist, which is pretty accurate (you can read the wikipedia article here [link]) ), i must say he's been able to transmit those words into an image with an amazing accuracy.

The half star remaining for that 5* vision, is more due a personal thing, i know it's sci-fi an all but i find it hard that a space suit could resist those temperatures without literally cooking the astronaut. But artistically it's nice to see him there.

Originality

I personally think this is really tied with the vision, but i find it pretty original, mostly when you see pictures of this style you usually see: Mars, and Future earth wastelands.

Technique

In five words: Can't stop looking the clouds.

Those clouds are one of the best things of the picture, (visually talking). The depth, complexity, details like the thunders and tornadoes make me feel like i'm there.

But of course it's not all clouds and clouds, the rocky ground lightning, the highly detailed astronaut suit make a visual contrast with the smoothness of the clouds.

Impact

Although due the colour (which is accurate and correct, not complaining of it) can be less impactly on the first sight, once you see the details, and read the description which helps you to understand better the artist vision on the picture gets the life you don't see at a first glance.

And personally, that astronaut is really brave to be standing there.
