Venus by Tr1umph Venus by Tr1umph
Venus is the second-closest planet to the Sun, orbiting it every 224.7 Earth days. The planet is named after Venus, the Roman goddess of love and beauty. After the Moon, it is the brightest natural object in the night sky, reaching an apparent magnitude of −4.6. Because Venus is an inferior planet from Earth, it never appears to venture far from the Sun: its elongation reaches a maximum of 47.8°. Venus reaches its maximum brightness shortly before sunrise or shortly after sunset, for which reason it is often called the Morning Star or the Evening Star.
Venus has an extremely dense atmosphere, which consists mainly of carbon dioxide and a small amount of nitrogen. The atmospheric mass is 93 times that of Earth's atmosphere while the pressure at the planet's surface is about 92 times that at Earth's surface—a pressure equivalent to that at a depth of nearly 1 kilometer under Earth's oceans. The density at the surface is 65 kg/m³ (6.5% that of water)
The CO2-rich atmosphere, along with thick clouds of sulfur dioxide, generates the strongest greenhouse effect in the Solar System, creating surface temperatures of over 460 °C (860 °F). This makes Venus's surface hotter than Mercury's which has a minimum surface temperature of -220 °C and maximum surface temperature of 420 °C, even though Venus is nearly twice Mercury's distance from the Sun and thus receives only 25% of Mercury's solar irradiance.

When i first saw the thumbnail i thought, i want a wallpaper of this!, and Tr1umph hasn't decieved me ^o^ anyway let's get into the critique.

After reading the description of Venus by the artist, which is pretty accurate (you can read the wikipedia article here [link]) ), i must say he's been able to transmit those words into an image with an amazing accuracy.

The half star remaining for that 5* vision, is more due a personal thing, i know it's sci-fi an all but i find it hard that a space suit could resist those temperatures without literally cooking the astronaut. But artistically it's nice to see him there.

I personally think this is really tied with the vision, but i find it pretty original, mostly when you see pictures of this style you usually see: Mars, and Future earth wastelands.

In five words: Can't stop looking the clouds.

Those clouds are one of the best things of the picture, (visually talking). The depth, complexity, details like the thunders and tornadoes make me feel like i'm there.

But of course it's not all clouds and clouds, the rocky ground lightning, the highly detailed astronaut suit make a visual contrast with the smoothness of the clouds.

Although due the colour (which is accurate and correct, not complaining of it) can be less impactly on the first sight, once you see the details, and read the description which helps you to understand better the artist vision on the picture gets the life you don't see at a first glance.

And personally, that astronaut is really brave to be standing there.
What do you think?

Abandon all hope, yet who enter here.

Would be cool to see a shot on a peak, with the top magnified so you could the acid rain evaporating before it hits the ground. Image in my head will have to do.

The surface of Venus is certainly a scary and violent place as I would imagine. The cyclones, the lightenings and the thickening dark clouds, and the lone space
man exploring, is pretty eye catching, and shares a visual sense of adventure that I enjoy. Nicely done. :)

I have to admit that I'm not an art savy person but I can tell that this is a painting with a powerful creative force behind.

It's amazing and in a way inspiring too. I think I found another desktop wallpaper :)

Ironically, Venus was also affiliated with Lucifer by early Christians.  Now we know Venus to be a "hellish" planet. ;)

A awesome scene, with wonderful artwork and superb coloring! :winner: When you take in mind that the atmospheric pressure in Venus is 92 times bigger that on the Earth´s surface well,I presume that this brave astronaut should be using a high-tech outfit! :omfg:

And immediately after this picture was taken, that astronaut was fried, crushed and suffocated all at the same time. Didn't know Venus has tornadoes, but I was expecting volcanoes. Very accurate storm though.
floramelitensis Featured By Owner Dec 25, 2009
i'm not sure if there are tornadoes on Venus, probably the high atmospheric pressure won't allow such storms to occur, though there is a double vortex on the south pole on Venus, which is kind of an enormous hurricane. nicely done, just love it! where is the space ship? that astronaut is going to fry! :D
Tr1umph Featured By Owner Dec 26, 2009
Ha-ha :) Space ship just flew away :( Poor astronaut :D
floramelitensis Featured By Owner Dec 26, 2009
lol! i wouldn't want to be him! Can't imagine feeling that superheat! and i wonder if truly an Astronaut can handle 93 times atmospheric pressure than that of earth, i mean, such pressure can crush a Car, let alone an Astronaut! if he is going to stand there more than one minute, he is going to be Pancaked! :D
